JP Morgan Chase, shook up the financial world with its announcement that Bill Winters would be immediately leaving the company. I think that is fancy wall street talk, meaning that William Bill Winters was fired.
In Winters place, JPMorgan Chase named asset management chief Jes Staley to run the business.
Steve Black, who helped lead the investment bank with London-based Winters, will become executive chairman of the unit, the New York-based bank said today in a statement. Staley will be CEO of the business and Mary Callahan Erdoes, CEO of the private bank, will succeed Staley in running asset management.
Seems like everyone is playing musical chairs. JPMorgan Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon, 53, is changing the only management team among the six biggest U.S. banks to weather the credit crisis without a quarterly loss.
The announcement comes as a big surprise for analysts because Bill Winters is very highly regarded in the financial world. Winters, 48, joined JPMorgan more than 25 years ago.
Staley’s new job signals he is one of the board’s top picks to succeed Jamie Dimon, according to a person briefed on the management decision
