Potomac river coast guard – Shots Fired

Today CNN reported that Potomac River Coast guards fired 10 shots at a boat that was on the Potomac River.
However Coast Guard officials later confirmed that no shots were fired. Not only that, but they claim the noise news stations heard that sounded like gun shots were all from a simulated exercise, which came from a radio.
Is the Potomac Coast guards covering something up?
Or were the news media in the wrong for breaking a story without having all the proper facts.
I have to admit it sounds fishy to me, that a US river coast guard would perform such a training drill on September 11th, 2009. You would think they would be remembering the people who lost their lives on 9 11 in the World Trade Center bombing.
CNN is after all a breaking news station, so I don’t blame them for trying to deliver us a story as it unfolded.
Not sure what to think. Well that’s all from Potomac news.
